For those who have had the pleasure of playing The Witcher 3 (because play this game is really a pleasure), Gwent represented much more than a simple mini-game. Among secondary missions and the irrepressible desire to possess all the cards, many of you have spent more hours playing cards that killing monsters.
Based on this unexpected success in-game and found that the cards be placed within the physical enclosure of the two expansions have been highly appreciated, CD Projeckt Red have thought well to make a game in its own right.
I have been fortunate to participate in the Stress Test of the servers and both of the 2 Beta sessions (currently in progress), and I’m enjoying the evolution of the game from a mini game to exciting strategy game.
For those few who do not know, in the version of Gwent, in “The Witcher 3” you build a deck with cards purchased from various merchants in-game by expanding the original one. At the start of the game, you take 10 cards from the deck with the possibility to change 2 with deck and after deciding who starts the round, every players trying to put on the battlefield (divided into melee, medium and long distance) the army with most attack value (each warrior card or monster has an attack value on the top), thinking that you need to win 2 rounds of 3, usually played with 10 initial cards (a few times you can to draw another).
The game in the Witcher 3 was very simple and intuitive, with related strategies especially to the type of deck (divided by the kingdoms in the game).
CD Projeckt Red are started from a solid base, so they took the existing rules and made it an online game by implementing new cards and abilities to make the game more interesting (the first version of Gwent stand alone was very similar to the version of the third Geralt’s adventure). In this regard, it has gone from having four climatic effects, destroy a creature and a few other spells to have a wide range of instant which can strengthen / weaken, duplicate, change the card’s rarity (very few skills affect gold cards) and much more, making Gwent a fantasy card game much more complete (just to understand they change the game from “I have the strongest deck, I win” to a strategic game the same way as Magic the Gathering and the like).
A game where the cards have a strong weight on the progress of the game, but a good strategy in the elaboration of the deck can easily get the better.
The servers don’t have problems, you’ll never make it hard to find an opponent willing to discuss with you.
Who played in the version of “The Witcher 3″ does not put us a lot to understand the new rules and adapt quickly to the new gameplay made of spells, combo, character abilities and new decks of property and of the Kings, but also those who do not never played will enter easy in the Gwent mechanisms.
Although it is a closed beta, the details are very accurate (typical CD Project Red and has since provided an online store) and illustrations of the fantastic cards, have all changed the original and redesigned for the occasion, showing, if it was still necessary, the incredible skill of the study illustrators, who have made a lot of new tables in no time. To present them in this fantastic job there is a menu collection that allows us to see all the cards available so far and also to know who designed it.
Even the card values are different than the in-game play, the stress tests, continuous developments and updates are expanding with new cards and mechanical skills, it’s an excellent choice to allow to draw 2 cards after the first round and 1 after the second, according to which I think improves the playability and makes it even more unpredictable game (draw a good card at the right time helps). My advice is to register yourselfs on the website for try this fantastic game that I’m sure will thrill you.
